The 50-Word Vignette Challenge

50-Word Vignette #45

Prompt: Instinct

Datura, hemlock or arsenic? Decision, decisions. In the end, there is only one choice: belladonna. Beautiful lady for a beautiful lady. Let's see what her precious instinct tells her about this final gift. Will she discern the secret in the cordial? Of course not. I always win in the end.

Anybody else like to join in and write their own? Just post it in the comments. All welcome.

‘I think I should leave him.’
‘What does your heart say?’
‘I've stopped listening to it, it’s far too dangerous.’
‘Instinct then? What does that say?’
‘Telling me to follow my instinct is like telling me to listen to my husband.’
‘I don’t follow.’
‘He says such wildly stupid things.’

Nesting
Before her first egg, does a bird ever question what compels her to collect sticks and straws, and weave them together in the notch of a tree? Does she wonder what madness has seized her, what instinct drives her to this crazy act?

Lights roiled. Brilliant, sharp, distinct in their bright colors -- from no visible source.

Every instinct in her revolted at them. She wanted nothing more to run far, far, far away.

As if she could run into the hard vacuum of space. Even if she could, there were the students.

it must be her instinct i think as i watch
she pounces - she tosses it - she sits on it
she takes it in her mouth
she kicks it with her back legs
she tosses it again
the game goes on
the hunting instinct
and it’s only a blue toy mouse
